Are Expensive Wedding Photographers Better Than Inexpensive Wedding Photographers Some brides and grooms out there pay excessive amounts for wedding photographers. There is nothing wrong with this if you know exactly the photographer you want and you fall in love with their work. It also helps if you can afford it. The question is however, is a more expensive wedding photographer a better photographer Is an inexpensive and more affordable photographer just not as qualified Well I know of one photographer that actually charges over $50,000 to shoot an 8 hour wedding. He sold the photos from the wedding at ridiculous prices to. Let's just say a wallet sized photo was $60. 00 fotografies gamou. And guess what The bride groom and their family ordered tons of pictures at those bloated prices Do you know what the photographer paid for the photoLet us just say he made out like a bandit. Wow. So basically if that photographer shot only 2 weddings a year that would be a pretty nice income for most people. Many photographers have figured this out and created their wedding photography package prices to be high priced and bloated. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with this but if you are wondering if these people that paid so much for their wedding photography got better photography coverage at their wedding because they could afford more, you are mistaken. So why did all these people pay so much money for their wedding photography Were the photos better qualityWere they on diamond covered photo paper Did he have a special camera No, no and no. This "high-end" photographer actually once worked at a regular priced photography studio. He left that studio confident that he could get a high price for his work and began marketing himself in more affluent areas with very classy looking, artsy ads. That was it. He only needed one or two weddings a year to make a good living but what he did do was change his perceived value. Perceived value when it comes to anything is a funny thing. Was his photography so amazing He was really good as are many photographers but he also wasn't any better than the art student that came in with photos he took from his cousins wedding. He definitely in my opinion was not worth 50k. He shot weddings in the same nice attire that all the other photographers shot in, he had the same photography equipment as most of them. . . so what it comes down to is how he marketed himself and what his perceived value was. Word of mouth among the affluent about this "high-end" photographer allowed him to do very well in his business but behind the scenes, he was laughing all the way to the bank. A good photographer is a good photographer. You can change his/her perceived value around with a twist of marketing and words. The thing is, many photographers are not always great business people. If they were, they would open up their own studios and charge whatever they like. In fact, often inexpensive photographers can be true artists. They prefer to focus more on their passion of photography shooting weddings rather than being businessmen women. This I believe shows in their work. So basically what it boils down to is this; Decide what you are willing to spend on your wedding photography, visit only the studios that are in your wedding budget and then look at a sample wedding of the photographers work. This is the most important part. You have to like the style that you see in the photographers sample work. Look for testimonials and make sure that they promise you a backup photographer if something goes wrong. If you like what you see and the price is right then you can be assured that you are making the correct decision. Current Mood: relieved | | 12:21 am |
How to Choose a Wedding Photographer, a Guide to Seeing Through the Confusion Choosing the right wedding photographer can have a huge influence not only on the outcome of your wedding photographs but also on your wedding day. Selecting wisely in a sea of options can be a real challenge and one I have seen many clients struggle with as confusion mounts and the ability to think clearly floats away. Photographs you like. The single most important reason for picking a photographer should be because you like their work. The photos your photographer produces will be with you for life, as your memory fades your photos will become your document of your wedding day and liking what you see should surely be paramount. Meet with the photographer. On the day of your wedding a good photographer will nestle intimately yet unobtrusively into your day, and who would want to spend the most important day of their life with someone you don't connect with. Meeting a person you can easily gauge whether you connect and feel comfortable around them, so it is important to meet potential photographers to make sure they are the sort of person you wish to involve in your day. Packages. This is where the real confusion can begin. First and foremost as I said in point 1 you need to like the work of the photographer you select. Don't be swayed by a photographer offering 4000 images, 90 free prints and a steak knife. This will all mean nothing if you don't like the photos. fotografies gamou Do you really want 4000 photos you hate Or would you rather have 400 photos you loveThink about what you really need in a package. Is your aim to be able to print your own photos and post them to your friend on Facebook If so you will want a photographer who delivers the images as both high and low resolution files on a disc. Perhaps you are not tech savvy, all you want is a pretty album and would like to be able to order prints direct from the photographer. Thinking about what you really want will help see through the cloud of packages. Coverage. As a wedding photographer I feel some of the best photographs come from the moments in between the goings on fotografies gamou. As such I feel it is important to select a photographer who is willing to offer all day coverage, from the moment your day begins to the time it ends. On your wedding day you will be busy, you will be running around and missing all the moments that make your day so special. Although you may not have thought you would want photographs of getting ready, imagine being able to look back and see your bridesmaids being themselves, your mum drinking her tea as her hair gets done, your husband to be, skulling a beer to calm his nerves and uncle bob feeling aunty may up on the dancefloor. These photos will mean so much more than any posed shots ever will. Price. Of course this is an important consideration and I will assume you are looking at photographers within your general budget. However once you have narrowed down some photographers within your budget don't be tempted to make the final decision based on price. Your memory of how much it cost will be forgotten long before your memory of how much you hated your wedding photos! Current Mood: grateful | | Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 | | 11:06 pm |
Professional Las Vegas Wedding Photographers Come With All Hotel Packages Have you just popped the big question to your partner and are ready to seal the bonds with a marriage ceremony These days the cost of weddings can run into the thousands of dollars; one way to get around this which is also becoming quite popular, is to go to Vegas. Having your wedding in Las Vegas has become cheaper than ever, you can find large hotel/casinos that offer amazing packages for first time couples; beside this the atmosphere of this desert city will make your special day one to remember for a long time. So how do you start organizing your perfect wedding day in Las Vegas Most people that travel to this city aim to get located in and around the main boulevard; this is where all the crowds and action are. fotografies gamou You might be worried about the overall cost of the larger hotels, but if you do a little research, you can find the cheap hotels Las Vegas has to offer just off of the main drag. In terms of making arrangements you have 2 options open to you, either you do all the leg work and hire the hotel rooms, catering, chapel service, professional Las Vegas wedding photographer. The other option is to find a reasonably priced hotel that has ready made Las Vegas wedding packages, these will include everything you need to make your day special; if you don't want the stress of organizing a wedding and just want to enjoy the moment this is the choice for you. If you are new to the city, finding a decent Las Vegas wedding package may take some time, but if you know where to look for the cheap hotels Las Vegas has, then it's easy. A good place to start is on the streets coming off the strip, these have a number of great fully featured accommodations there that are ideally located in the thick of the action. The upside to organizing the ceremony yourself is that you can have everything working on your schedule; the hotels will usually rush you through the proceedings as other people will also want to be married after you. If you aren't sure exactly where to begin, here are 2 options to give you an idea of how you might want to approach your Las Vegas wedding. (1) Excalibur Hotel and Casino - This is one of the better options for couples getting married, not only do they have low priced packages, but this hotel is actually located at the South end of the main strip. This massive complex hotel/casino has nearly 4000 rooms in total, that's 28 floors of space and a beautiful interior. This particular hotel has a medieval theme and you can choose from a number of themed wedding packages, if you fancy getting married in old costumes, then this is the place for you. For couples that just want a standard Las Vegas wedding, the Excalibur hotel also has this option for a low $199 per couple. The price unfortunately doesn't come with a room, but you get an hour in the chapel, a grooms boutonniere, a professional Las Vegas wedding photographer, 18 copyrighted photo proofs and image enlargements. You are limited to having just 20 guests, which is due to the size of the chapel, the wedding I also accompanied by a traditional band and flower arrangements. (2) Vegas Weddings: Dream Chapel - This is another alternative to hotel package, you could separately ask a chapel to help you organized the ceremony. This particular chapel offers an attractive deal for just $429 per couple, it includes a limousine service for you and 6 other people to take you to the wedding in style, you'll get access to a private bridal suite where you can get dressed and add the finishing touches to your gown before the big moment. There are several venues available and you can choose the one that suits you, besides this there offer a bouquet of flowers for the brides maid, a grooms boutonniere, a copy of your marriage certificate in a sealed protective casing, your own professional Las Vegas wedding photographer, 18 quality photo prints of the action and finally for any friends or family that couldn't make it, there will be a live internet broadcasting for them. Starting a Wedding Photography Business - The Details So You've Got TalentSo you are a photographer and not just any type of photographer you are a wedding photographer. You've chosen a profession that will require many different skill sets, not the least of which is your ability to take a great picture. But there is a lot more to running a successful business than just having a service to offer. Many people have had a great idea or a special talent but have not been able to capitalize on that talent. This series of articles is intended to help you achieve your dream of working on your own, providing a unique service to deserving clients, and doing it all successfully. The Real Cost of Wedding Photography BusinessFirst and foremost let's get the necessities out of the way. If you're going into business as a wedding photographer there are certain things you are going to have to have at a minimum. Some photographers have done without some of the following items but to be honest I wouldn't suggest it. These are just the basics to get you started. You can build up your equipment later on. Each of the following items is listed within its own article: * website (with a secure gallery for customers) and email * marketing plan * photography equipment and home office * a second photographer * insurance, taxes, business license and bank accountsWhat's Not ListedYou'll notice that I didn't list photographic skill. When it comes to your skill as a wedding photographer I'm assuming you've already looked at your ability from an objective standpoint and determined that you do have something unique that others will want to pay for. If you have done this you'll also want to make sure you can handle the responsibility associated with wedding photography. This is an extremely special day in a couple's life so you have to be sure you are able to take on the immense responsibility of capturing every moment of that day. If you have both of those items then it's on to looking at the other aspects that make up a business owner's skill set, such as attention to detail, customer centric thinking, and patience. The Devil's in the DetailsDetails can make or break a wedding photography business. This is important to realize up front. If you don't pay attention to those details you can easily falter. As a photographer you'll need to pay attention to the details of the wedding. Equally important you'll need to focus on the details of the business. These details include the wording on your wedding contract, the promises you make to your clients, your ability to keep track of the different weddings you might have at any given time. This leads us to the next important part, being customer centric. The Customer's Always RightThere is a reason that corporations spend so much money on figuring out ways to make customers happy, because it's easier and cheaper to keep a customer than to get a new one. The same goes with the wedding photography biz. fotografies gamou If you learn how to make your customers happy you'll get repeat business, referrals, and a better reputation within your community. There is no secret to making your customers happy. Here are some simple things to remember: * Always deliver what you promise - if you say it will take 2 months to edit their photos it shouldn't take 2 and a half months * Be quick about your replies - Wedding Photographers are notorious about not replying to emails and calls, set yourself apart by replying to all inquiries within 24 hours at the max * Be courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful before, during, and after the wedding. * Always keep in your thoughts that this is someone's special day - When you have edited your 30th wedding and you are looking at your 600th picture in that wedding remember that while this is a job to you, its someone's wedding day * Don't be on time, be early - Being early to meetings, weddings, and events will allow you to prepare yourself for those events. It also has the added benefit of making you look more professional * Dress appropriately - Black or natural colors are always a good choice for photographers. Dressing business casual for most weddings will be sufficient but always check with the couple if in doubt. ***Remember, while you should look professional, you should also be comfortable***Patience is a VirtueRemember that your photographic skill didn't happen spontaneously so don't expect that your business will boom over night. It takes work to make a business successful and even given all of the right ingredients it still might fail. Even if it fails, learn from your mistakes, try again, and try and try and try. Never give up on something as important to you as pursuing your dream. If you have to work a day job during the week while getting your business of the ground then so be it. If you have to learn how to design websites just to put up your own website, so be it. If you have to shoot weddings for free to build up a portfolio then so be it. Just don't give up. How do I know all of thisI'm the owner of a Pensacola wedding photography business. I have built my business from the ground up with no help from anyone else. I started by shooting weddings for free for friends and family members. My first cameras were consumer grade digital Rebels. I've upgraded everything along the way as I could afford it. I trained with a local wedding photographer and have always been into photography, web design and marketing. With these talents I created a solid business that exceeds my customers' expectations, stays profitable, and allows me to live comfortably based only my own skills. I've had failures along the way but have learned from them and have become one of the top Pensacola wedding photographers. Read OnPlease make sure to read the other articles in this series. They cover everything from websites to insurance but by no means are they the end all be all. Take what you can from what I have to offer and learn what you can from other sources. Be a sponge, soak it all in. It is my hopes that it will help you in your effort to run a successful wedding photography business. Current Mood: groggy | | 6:52 pm |
Unique Wedding Photography - Location and Shot Ideas If you are looking for a professional wedding photographer to shoot your wedding, you may want a photographer with a truly unique style fotografies gamou. There are many photographers in the wedding business, but some are way more creative and adventurous than others. To make sure you're getting a photographer who will create unique images, it's a good idea to talk to them about the location of the wedding and discuss specific shot ideas. One of the ways to get the best shot ideas is to find wedding photos from others who have already gotten married at that location. Use Google to perform an "image search", which will give you search results comprised of images instead of text. If you search using the name of the venue, plus the word "wedding", you are very likely to get a variety of wedding photos from the web which have been tagged with the venue name. You can also search for wedding websites of couples who got married at that venue. The sites themselves may not have any wedding photos, but you may be able to get in touch with the couple via e-mail and ask them about their experience with their photographer at that venue. People love to talk about and share their wedding photos, and they may even let you look at their photos, which will give you plenty of ideas around a specific venue. fotografies gamou A good wedding photographer will be imaginative and come up with ideas on their own, but it helps to give them an idea of your preferences so that they will shoot more of one type of shot and less of another that you may not like. For example, some people just love to have regular "stand up" shots of the wedding party, family, and close friends, in different combination's. If you need this, provide your photographer with a specific list, otherwise you may not get all of the combination's you want. If you are not big on standups, let them know that as well, which will free up their time to explore other types of shots. Also, don't think that all of the best wedding shots have to include people. Some of the most interesting and artistic photos from the wedding can be still life shots of the rings, food, dessert, or other ornamental aspects of the location environment. Also make sure you discuss this with your photographer to see what kind of ideas they may already have for these types of shots. Again, if you don't like these kinds of shots, also tell them so that they don't spend too much time photographing inanimate objects. Good wedding photography strikes a balance between event coverage and unique artistic creation. To get the most out of your wedding photos, discuss this balance with your photographer and flesh out as many shot ideas as you can prior to the event. This will make the process more efficient, which will give your photographer chance to take more photos, and you will end up with a higher percentage of wonderful shots. Wedding Photographers - Dont Settle For Anything But the Best Wedding photography is an art that is of vital importance to all wedding ceremonies. Wedding photographers have the very important responsibility of creating a beautiful album that captures all that is beautiful about a wedding. A wedding photograph album is something that people keep returning to because this is a beautiful occasion that is full of significance and promise. The wedding album is also something that should be preserved for future generations to see. In fact, children, and even grandchildren, clamor to see wedding photographs in order to see married couple as they looked on their special day. Wedding photography is usually quite expensive because there is a lot of work that goes into it. Taking photographs of a wedding is not only about getting people to pose for the cameras in different combination's or locations. A talented wedding photographer will be able to capture all the events and moments that makes one couple and family different from another one. Photographs of a wedding should be able to record all nuances and moods of the wedding as opposed to simply being a chronicle of the event. It goes without saying that photographs of the wedding should have portraits of the couple and of their immediate family. However, these photographs should be taken by a person who has the real knack for it and a passion for the job. You should therefore make your selection with a great deal of care so that your wedding photographs look as beautiful as they can be fotografies gamou. If you have to organize a wedding in Toronto, either for yourself or for someone else, you will have to choose the photographer with care. Also, you should not settle for a bad photographer just because of the cost. Put in a lot of effort to find the best Toronto wedding photography studio so that you are satisfied with the final results. Take your time to select a photographer, making sure that you see all samples of photographs the person has taken. Do not be afraid to ask people for recommendations and suggestions especially if they have recently used the service of good wedding photographers. You will also find plenty of good Toronto wedding photographers online. Looking on the internet is the quickest way of getting the job done because you will be able to refine your search with the most ease. You will also be able to weed out any photographers who do not make the cut, thereby saving yourself the hassle of contacting them. These efforts to find the most talented experts in wedding photography will ensure that you have a memento of the wedding that is truly extraordinary and as beautiful and moving as the actual ceremony. Wedding Photography Tips and Tricks Take your role seriously but don't overdo itBy definition, you are a GUEST Wedding Photographer, therefore you are not the primary wedding photographer. It is the primary wedding photographer's main obligation to document the whole shebang. He is the lead pack, so he gets the first bite fotografies gamou. Rather than competing with him, try to view yourself as his partner. Complement, not rival, his work with your own. When he's out taking pictures of the bride and groom's first kiss, go out and take pictures of the teary-eyed relatives watching them. Try to move out of his responsibility circle and look for other subjects he may not be able to capture. This way, more quality work is done and less redundancy, not to mention elbow wars is avoided. CirculateYes, socializing is the best way to being able to see minute details that the photographer may have missed. The main photographer will probably be busy focusing on the bride and groom's every move. fotografies gamou Guests, even if they are part of entourage or are close friends, will have to take a close second. So, move around. Mingle with people. Take candid photos. Try different angles. And vary subjects from the guests at the buffet table to the bridesmaids dancing. The couple will surely appreciate what went on during their wedding after they've come out of their spell and take the time to browse those photos. Whereas the wedding was intimate and romantic, the wedding reception will be a time to let loose and bring out loud guffaws. Capture those moments. Try to photograph each table even if the bride and groom aren't around. Be DiscreetAgain, try to respect the bride and groom's day but not taking the spotlight away from them or distracting them from more important matters. Wear suitable clothes for the event. You'd want something that can blend in with the couple's theme and dress code. Research beforehand what this might be and balance this with comfort and looseness to allow you more room to take difficult angles. Do not use flash during the wedding ceremony itself. Even if the church has low lighting, try to compensate this with high ISO. Lastly, try not to be too obtrusive of the couple's most intimate of moments. Don't tag along when they discreetly move out of the party place and unto their honeymoon. They would want to be alone during these moments. A photograph of it might be more daunting than rewarding in the long run. Good luck to you! Current Mood: giddy | | 12:50 pm |
What Kind of Camera Should My Wedding Photographer Use If you are in the process of looking for a wedding photographer, chances are you will soon hear the terms: medium format, 35mm, and digital. Those are the three primary types of camera systems currently used by wedding photographers. fotografies gamou We, the wedding photographers, have argued amongst ourselves for years as to which camera system is best. I'll start by sharing with you about the different camera systems and will then give you my opinion of which camera system your wedding photographer should use. Medium FormatFor many years medium format has been the absolute best option. A medium format camera uses film that is 3 times the size of a 35mm negative-- resulting in higher resolution images and beautiful enlargements, however, the cameras and processing costs are very expensive. Primary advantages: high resolution negatives. Previously, the fact that a person owned a Medium Format camera was almost, in and of itself, a sign that they were a true "wedding photographer" (due to the expense of the system). Disadvantages: expensive to operate (film costs are so high that some wedding photography books encourage medium format photographers to limit the photos they take); film can be lost or damaged during processing; slower to focus and operate. 35mmFor many years 35mm has had a bad reputation for providing poor quality enlargements -- especially when compared to medium format. However, over the past 10 years the quality of 35mm film has improved tremendously. It is now a common format used by many professional photographers, especially those who use the photojournalistic style and shoot close to a thousand or more images on a wedding day. Primary advantages to 35mm: fast (easy to quickly focus and shoot during), much improved quality of enlargements (many people would have a hard time telling the difference between a 35mm and medium format 8x10 enlargement). Disadvantages: processing film is becoming more and more expensive, and film can be damaged or loss during processing. Many photographers that shoot film are now having the negatives scanned so that the files become a digital file. DigitalProfessional digital wedding photography has been a viable option since about the year 2000 (although some would argue that date). The quality of digital cameras has now reached a point where I now feel digital has surpassed the quality of medium format negatives. Keep in mind there is a broad variety of cameras, and a "professional" digital camera from 2004 that cost $4,500 new will not capture the quality of images that a "pro-am" (a camera targeted to advanced amateurs and also professionals) from 2010 that costs $2,000 will capture. "Digital camera" covers a massive spectrum of cameras and camera quality. Primary digital advantages: instant review of images on the back of the camera; no film and processing costs (although the savings is offset by the additional computer time required to process the digital images); more control over the images (i. e. , a slight rotation or cropping of an image is quick and easy with digital but requires a custom print from 35mm or medium format). Many digital cameras surpass the quality of even medium format. Disadvantages: technology changes rapidly over time and cameras soon are outdated (although this doesn't necessarily effect you, as the consumer). Memory cards are easier to lose than rolls of film (if your wedding photographer uses a digital camera, ask them how they make sure the photos arrive safely back at the studio). So, which camera system should my photographer useNo matter what you have been told - all three formats are a viable method for wedding photography. Some might be more expensive than others, but they all CAN produce good results. The fact is that all three systems can result in poor-quality photos, too. Many photographers use several of the camera systems. Some might use medium format for the formals but 35mm for the reception and ceremony coverage. Others will primarily shoot digital, but might bring film cameras as backup equipment. This is the key: before signing a contract with a photographer, ask to see sample enlargements that were taken with the same equipment that would be used at your wedding. If you like the quality and color of the images, it doesn't really matter whether 35mm, digital, or a medium format camera was used to record the image! Current Mood: recumbent | | 11:32 am |
Exclusive Wedding Photography Techniques For More Profit It's not often that you are the only wedding photographer in town fotografies gamou. If you are of course, then you don't have any competition and therefore don't need to read any further. More realistically, you are one of many and need to offer something special in order to increase your share of the market and so increase your income. Let your competition pose their newlyweds in front of the same old boring backgrounds or pray for good weather so they can do a photo shoot in the local park. You can offer to take your clients to far away lands and never have to worry about the weather. You can actually do all this on a very small budget with the new wedding photography techniques and never have to leave the comfort of your studio. You can place your bride and groom in all sorts of romantic locations from a castle in Scotland to a resort in the Maldives. All you actually need is a piece of green cloth and a computer. You just set up a green screen, photograph your clients in front of it and then use green screen computer software to place them in any location they want. This equipment isn't expensive nor is the technique difficult and it also means that you no longer have to buy lots of different backgrounds or carry heavy equipment to difficult locations. The green screen is easy to use. All you need to do is load the photo of your couple and a photo of the location that they have decided upon. The software then easily replaces the green screen with the scenic image and cleverly blends the images to give a natural effect. This means that you can now offer your clients something special that your competition can't. If you advertise that your studio can take them away to far away lands for their wedding photographs without any expense or travel involved, then you will be able to increase your customers. With green screen wedding photography techniques, you can photograph people anywhere on earth, the only limit is their imagination. This should give you a fabulous portfolio of portraits in romantic locations so your clientele will grow and grow. Current Mood: pessimistic | | 10:22 am |

Don't be swayed by a photographer offering 4000 images, 90 free prints and a steak knife. This will all mean nothing if you don't like the photos. Do you really want 4000 photos you hate Or would you rather have 400 photos you loveThink about what you really need in a package. Coverage. As a wedding photographer I feel some of the best photographs come from the moments in between the goings on. As such I feel it is important to select a photographer who is willing to offer all day coverage, from the moment your day begins to the time it ends. On your wedding day you will be busy, you will be running around and missing all the moments that make your day so special. Although you may not have thought you would want photographs of getting ready, imagine being able to look back and see your bridesmaids being themselves, your mum drinking her tea as her hair gets done, your husband to be, skulling a beer to calm his nerves and uncle bob feeling aunty may up on the dancefloor. fotografies gamou These photos will mean so much more than any posed shots ever will. Price fotografies gamou. gamos Of course this is an important consideration and I will assume you are looking at photographers within your general budget. However once you have narrowed down some photographers within your budget don't be tempted to make the final decision based on price. Your memory of how much it cost will be forgotten long before your memory of how much you hated your wedding photos! Current Mood: cranky | | 8:56 am |
Photographers Guide to Wedding Photography - Ghosting fotografies gamou As an experienced wedding photographer in Liverpool and Manchester, I have found ghosting to be a major problem that arises on a regular basis. It is caused when light is reflected from either inside the lens barrel or elements. When photographing a wedding, it can often occur as strong light sources such as huge windows (Often seen in fantastic Tudor style buildings used for weddings), are a favourite haunt for photographers wanting to make the most out of the surroundings. Liverpool, Merseyside and Manchester are littered with venues like this and are regular haunts for me on a daily and weekly basis. fotografies It is often the case that as soon as the camera is pointed towards the subject (Let say the bride - sitting on a medieval seat right in front of the window), the risk of 'Ghosting' will be dramatically increased. Doing little or nothing about this could potentially destroy what would be a fantastic photograph. However, some simple techniques can solve the problem. . . Firstly, good lenses 'Claim' to reduce the risk of ghosting, although I have yet to find one that completely stops this. Secondly, using a good UV filter will also help, but again, these can only 'Help reduce' the risk and it is often the case that shooting directly towards will still result in slight ghosting. Using packages like photo shop can also help, as spending time darkening the problem area will help reduce the negative effect ghosting gives. The best and simplest way I have found is to step sideways away from the window and angle the camera till no ghosting can be seen. Take a photograph, check it, move further sideways, take another and so on until no ghosting occurs. Many of the images I take are on angles anyway and so if I move away from 'Straight on' towards the window, lets say left, angle the camera to add a funky look to the image and then press the shutter, ghosting is minimized and a cool looking photograph is captured. When photographing weddings, one of the most important elements is that you do not keep the bride waiting. Photographers who are standing around for too long attempting to get the perfect shot will only cause concern for the bride and cause negative feeling towards you. I find as a photographer that its best to play it safe. That is why funky angles are common place in many of the photographs I take. Should you as a photographer REALLY want the straight on image in front of the window, then either get the lens, filter and spend time editing or simply use the angled option, thus helping reduce the time in post production. fotografies gamou An after thought. . . Ghosting can be a desirable effect. . . Shoot a few straight on and they may just work. Remember photographers are (Meant to be) artists, there is no right or wrong way. It is not maths. . . This is just a guide. . . Current Mood: bitchy | | 7:18 am |
Professional Wedding Photography, Is It Worth It Wedding PhotographyWedding photography is one of the most important decisions you have to make when planning for your big day. You may have been planning your wedding for the best part of a year, or for some brides many years! Everything has to be perfect. There are so many different components to plan for a wedding. fotografies gamou From the photographer, wedding cake, venue, food etc, it all needs sourcing and then bringing together. If you think about it, it is a huge undertaking, with all your work culminating on a single day of celebrations. Of course, all couples know that this costs money. The dress costs, the cake costs, not to mention the venue itself! Wedding photography can also be quite an expense and can average between 1000-2000. This can seem outrageously expensive to many but consider what you are paying for. Wedding photography is an art and requires experience, knowledge and a certain skillset. There is also a lot more to wedding photography than just taking the photographs on the day. fotografies gamou Often there are 3-4 additional days of editing after the event. The photographer may take anything between 2000-3000 images, this may then edited down to 300-500 images and then those are further edited individually. This is extremely labour intensive but photographers take pride in their work. Of course many people own decent cameras these days and it can be tempting to just get your friends and families to take the photo's, and you can bet that it is highly unlikely that they will be of the quality of a good wedding photographer. One of the things to consider is that your actual wedding day will come and go (and very quickly), the only to remind you of the day are the photographs. Many years down the line, some of the details of your wedding will no doubt fade and your wedding album may be the only thing left to connect your memories to the day. This is how important professional wedding photography is. The memories are priceless. Getting a professional to do the job frees up your friends and families to relax and enjoy the celebrations rather than having to stress about getting the images. A wedding professional also gives you piece of mind that your future memories are being captured by someone who knows what they are doing. Brides can often spend several hundreds of pounds on a wedding cake for example yet they balk at the thought of paying 1000 or so for a professional wedding photographer who will preserve their memories for life. Wedding photography should be seen as an investment and over a lifetime the cost is nothing. For me personally, I know that I am ever grateful for our wedding photographer who so skillfully captured our day. I occasionally look through our wedding album to bring back those precious memories and that is priceless. fotografies gamou So, yes it is another cost but professional wedding photography is one of the best investments you can make in your wedding planning. Starting A Wedding Photography Business - A Six Step Plan It takes a special person to carve a successful career in photography. You need to be artistic, good with people, and have a good business sense. If you keep your company small you need to be able to turn your hand to everything in regards to running a business and being a photographer. To become a wedding photographer you also need to enjoy working under pressure; as a wedding generally costs a lot of money, you will be expected to produce stunning work, people will be running round (often stressed) trying to organise everyone, putting you under time pressure- whilst others will be heading for the bar as fast as possible, making it very difficult to get everyone to participate in the group shot! Unfortunately this is often seen as your fault if you don't get the shots that the Bride and Groom wanted, even worse if you actually don't get 'Uncle Phil' in any shot as he couldn't be prized away from the said bar! However, the prospect of an exciting and lucrative career still calls. So where do you start from hereStep One - Training. This should, without doubt be your first port of call when even considering a career in Wedding Photography. The initial investment in a good Wedding Photography Course will pay for itself a thousand times over by giving you the tools to succeed and most importantly to point out the common (often costly) pitfalls to avoid. A good course will spend time shooting on location, so you can start to learn how to see a good shot and learn how to work with tricky lighting conditions, you should also spend time on the business side of being a wedding photographer, covering the set up, sales and marketing, album design etc. . . Finally you also want instruction in cataloguing and keywording all them images you are going to have, in RAW file workflow and post production of images. This will give you a thorough grounding in all matters relating to your Wedding Photography Business. Step Two - Business Planning and Setting UpOnce your training is completed you will then have a very clear idea in mind of the target market you are aiming for. With this knowledge you will now be able to make a start on your business plan. A business plan is the most important thing you can do when setting up a business and I recommend doing one at least each year during the lifetime of the business. I really cannot stress the importance of a good, thorough and well thought out business plan; not only will it further strengthen in your mind what you want your business to be, it will also identify any potential problems early on and enable you to act upon your findings. You will then need to sort out your company formation (sole trader, LLP or LTD) and also your trading name, then set up your bank accounts, insurances, business stationery, your contracts of engagement / terms and conditions etc. . . There is a lot that goes into the actual set up, but take your time and do it properly and it will save you the time in trying to do all or some of it later on, when you are busy with Weddings. Step Three - Equipment AcquisitionIt is now I would suggest any equipment acquisition you had in mind to be done. The reason I would suggest waiting until this point is thus; for one, you will have completed your training course and had plenty of chance to ask your tutor what equipment they would suggest you need based on your aspirations and budget and for two, you will now have a much clearer idea of the budget you have available now after you have completed your business plan. If your budget has altered dramatically and now you feel unsure what equipment you should buy now with the new budget in mind, go back to your tutor and ask. A good training company will offer advice after the course event, so make the most of it! If at this point you really don't need the equipment, I suggest you wait until you have got bookings coming in and buy the equipment from your profits. It is best not to spend too much money if you don't have to in the early days. gamos Step Four - Building Up Your Portfolio of ImagesI am frequently asked "Can I use the images taken on courses for my portfolio, website and for advertising" I always advise against this. You need your own images to advertise your own business otherwise you could run yourself into trouble with trading standards by using images created on courses. A much better way is to offer your services to a more established photographer as their assistant for the day. You maybe able to get your camera out and take some shots yourself- however even if you don't it will be a great insight to the real workings of wedding photography and it will increase your confidence even more. You may have to travel a bit, as a photographer local to you most likely will not let you through their door; as after all you intend to operate in the same area, you are a potential threat to their business. So be prepared to travel for the experience. Another good way and guaranteed to get you images you need is to go back to your training company, as many offer 'Portfolio Building Days'. Here they will book locations and models for you and make available to you lighting equipment should you need it. You then get to create the shots you need, without them being set up by someone else. It is a more costly option, but can help you to get established in the early days until you can replace these images with your own on the job shots. Step Five - Your WebsiteGreat care must be taken over your website design as this is undoubtedly your biggest selling tool. You don't want it to look too homemade and above all it needs to have lots of beautiful images on it. It amazes me when I see photographers' websites with very few pictures, as after all it is the stunning array of pictures that will ultimately get you the booking! You need to make your website easy to navigate, with your contact details or a email form so that potential clients find it easy to get in touch with you. You also need to tell people why they should book you on your website; if you cannot find a single reason, how are your potential clients going to You should have identified your unique selling points during the creation of your business plan which will help you to write a stunning sales pitch and convince potential clients why they should book you and your services. Step Six - Advertising Your ServicesYou will have identified where your competitors are advertising whilst you were doing your research for your business plan. There are so many advertising mediums today that it can be a minefield knowing where to advertise and getting it wrong can be very costly. As ever the good old local Bridal Fayre is a captive audience, so is often worthwhile attending. You will need a brochure or a flyer at least so that people visiting your stand have something to take away and remember you by. Don't forget the importance of creating a mailing list- often a timely reminder can secure you that booking. Also get your business onto the social networks, such as a Facebook page and Google places. Try and get on as many online directories as time allows. There after your campaign needs to be built around your target clientele, as to whether you advertise locally, nationally or in newspapers or the glossy magazines, whether you leave flyers with local businesses or details with hotel venues. This is where your early research will pay dividends. Then it is a case of continuing to work hard until your efforts starts to reap in the rewards with numerous bookings and a good and healthy profit. Good luck and enjoy the ride! Tips For Outdoor Wedding Photography - How to Get the Best Pictures Possible Outdoor wedding photography creates an eloquent story of your special day. The beautiful scenes, the sunlight, and the fresh air really sets the scene for romance. Unfortunately, light, clouds, wind, and even the elements are never the same from moment to moment. Since the natural elements are quite different from the indoors, there are several things you will need to consider in order to help even the best wedding photographers to get good pictures. Choose A Good BackgroundLike with indoor wedding photography, there are things you want to include in a background because they add to the picture and things that are best left out. fotografies gamou Standing on the edge of a hill with the mountains in the backdrop, for instance, would make stunning pictures. Having a car in the background is not what you want to see. If it does happen, it isn't the end of the world. For wedding photographers, this might mean they will shoot from a different angle or use a different lens and focus setting to blur out the background. Small settings work just as well for wedding photography as large backdrops. A small background needs texture in the background to help set up the scene for you. This could include things like a fountain, architecture, shrubs, and even walkways. Many couples actually prefer the smaller settings for the intimate feelings wedding photographers can create with them. Natural LightingStrong natural sunlight can make it very difficult to take good pictures. It creates very distinct shadows on the photographs and very bright areas. While it does create dramatic photographs, it isn't always the best. In this instance, the shade or even a cloudy day creates a nice soft lighting for photographs. About an hour before sunset and sunrise are the times when the lighting is the best, mostly because the light takes on a golden color that adds a nice touch to most locations. Consider Black And WhiteBecause of the rich textures usually found in outdoor wedding photography, having the photograph make some or all of the portraits black and white can be a nice touch. The added texture from foliage and architecture is highlighted just enough to keep the pictures interesting fotografies gamou. As an added benefit, eliminating the color from a photograph also works well with pictures taken in the strong light. Worse Case ScenariosHaving wedding portraits taken outdoors means you and the wedding photographers will be dealing with nature. Swarms of little flies or dust make small little marks in the pictures. If it is extremely windy, very hot, or cold, it will show up in the faces of the subjects as well. Things such as snow and rain show up as marks in the photographs. If you are having the pictures taken inside of a large gazebo or covered structure, the snow or rain in the background can actually make a nice background for your portraits. However, it is always a good idea to have an alternative plan in place in order to prepare for the unexpected. Whether you are in an exotic location or downtown Chicago, wedding photography taken outdoors is a great way to get unique backgrounds for your portraits and even the ceremony itself. Along with the beautiful scenery, however, comes the realm of possibilities and unexpected occurrences. Planning, careful selection of the location, and even the time the pictures are taken will have a huge impact on the final story wedding photographers capture. Current Mood: moody | | 3:25 am |
Use These Wedding Photography Tips For A Stress-Free Wedding Photography is more than just a hobby for many people, and can be a lucrative career. There are different areas of photography you can work in, with wedding photography as one of the most popular. Wedding photography can be incredibly stressful, as you get hired to capture memories for the most special day of a couple's lives. They are not going to get this day back, and are expecting you to take beautiful pictures they can treasure forever. Especially as a new wedding photographer, you may feel stressed and overwhelmed for your first few weddings fotografies gamou. Over time as you start to gain more practice and experience, and with helpful wedding photography tips, you can improve your skills, gain more exposure and get hired by more clients. Even with an expensive, professional camera, the pictures may still come out blurry if you shake when you take pictures if you are nervous and your hands are shaking. Another of the important wedding photography tips to be aware of is to create a "shot list" before going to any job. This is vital to keep you organized and on track while at the wedding. The average wedding takes place over the course of a day, and with all the excitement and business of the day, it can go by faster than expected. Being prepared before the morning of the wedding is essential to ensure you get all the best shots and capture every separate moment of the day. From the family pictures to the wedding ceremony to the reception, the happy couple is going to want to have pictures to remember every moment during their wedding day. Every couple is different and by getting to know them and understand their personalities, you can best decide which style and theme of pictures they would most enjoy. Although wedding photography can certainly be a stressful field, as you always want to make sure you pleased the couple and captured the beauty of their wedding day, it can also be a very fulfilling and financially rewarding job. What To Consider When Choosing Your Wedding Photographer Wedding Photography is perhaps as important as the wedding dress or wedding venue fotografies gamou. However, it is often the one area that couples gives the least thought to; but it is the one element of your wedding that will stay relevant to future generations, and help you keep the memories of the day fresh. There are two principal approaches to wedding photography one is Traditional and the other Reportage. Traditional wedding photography provides the more classically posed images and a degree photographic control and interaction on the day of the wedding. Reportage or Photojournalistic wedding photography is based on editorial reporting styles; focusing more on candid and un-posed images with little photographer interaction with the wedding guests. Though the two styles may be diametric opposites are most bride and grooms will want a photographer that will confidently switch between these two styles capturing both elements of Traditional and Reportage stylistics. The term 'contemporary wedding photography' is often used to describe wedding photography that is not of a seen to be the usual type of traditional photography. The purpose of contemporary photography is primarily to capture the narrative and ambiance of the day. The reasoning behind this style is twofold; first in order that the bride and groom can relive the experience of the day and secondly that they can enjoy the moments they missed, but that were captured by the camera. Thereby giving a feel for what the wedding was like, rather than a succession of pre-determined poses. This term is often mistaken for meaning any photograph that is not posed or formal. The ubiquity of digital cameras means that many people can offer their services as a photographer, but a cautionary note should be sounded, contemporary photography comprises of more than relaxed snapshots taken at a wedding, it involves composition and lighting to capture aesthetically pleasing photographs. A common practice at wedding receptions (or wedding breakfasts) is the use of disposable cameras on the tables for guests to use. These are an expensive novelty; don't expect to get a set of album quality photographs, you will be disappointed fotografies gamou. The world of Wedding Photography continuously evolves, it is an innovative industry and those at the cutting edge of the industry constantly provide new ideas for the photographic community to follow. As a result trends will continually develop, though some will lack any form of longevity, others will become part of the standard photographic convention. A wedding is a unique occasion, and as such any photographer should be prepared for the unforeseen eventuality. The photographer is constantly looking for the opportunities for candid shots. It is important when planning the timing of events for a wedding that time is scheduled for the photographs, also plan the formal shots before hand and revisit that list before the wedding to ensure 'great aunt Bessie' has not been forgotten, this will alleviate many of the stresses associated with photographing a wedding, and keep everyone happy. The ability of the photographer to diplomatically take charge also helps - predominantly when photographing groups or families. The photographs with young children should be scheduled first, before the children get tired and dirty. Current Mood: naughty | | Sunday, May 6th, 2012 | | 1:11 am |
My First 3 Years As a Wedding Photographer - Lessons Learned Wow, it's been a roller coaster ride for me in the last 3 years. As well as holding down a full time job as a marketing manager I've also been building up my wedding and portrait photography business. Whilst it's been very challenging juggling the two elements in my life, it's also been richly rewarding, and I've learned some very valuable lessons. So what advice would I offer other like-minded photographers looking to build a career in social photography Here are some of my top tips:1 fotografies gamou. Plan your week ahead - When you are juggling both a job and a business it's absolutely critical that you manage your time effectively. A great tip is to spend an hour every Sunday afternoon planning your week ahead. Also, plan in time for your different 'roles', such as 'Photographer', 'Day Job', 'Father' and 'Husband'. It's vital to keep some balance in your life, so plan in some down time and recreation. 2. Look at other photographers' work, but keep true to your style- Whilst it's great to look at other photographers' work and style to get inspiration, you shouldn't overdo this. It's important to develop your own unique style and trust your own artistic instincts. At the end of the day it's your own unique vision and style that you must sell, and this is what becomes your brand identity. Rest assured that you are probably much better than you think you are! 3. Write a business and marketing plan- If you don't set yourself objectives for each year, and write out a plan of how you will achieve them, there's a high probability you won't achieve them. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it's a fact! We write a business plan every January for the year ahead, set out all of our objectives and then work on a marketing action plan for how we are going to achieve them. Write a plan, but more importantly, work the plan! 4. Keep networking- Keep building links with other wedding suppliers, such as other photographers, make up artists, venues and dress makers. It's a great way to raise the profile of your company and also generate leads. If possible join a local business networking group. 5. Maintain a positive mental attitude- This is less tangible but incredibly important. It's tough getting a business off the ground in the current economic climate, and you're going to face knock-backs and challenges along the way. You must keep your objectives in mind through it all, and remain positive. You have to build up some mental resilience. In addition I would say that you should try to adopt the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, which basically means that you seek to continuously improve every aspect of your business and photography. Good luck! Keep positive and above all persist, and I'm sure you'll make it as a professional photographer. Current Mood: amused | | Saturday, May 5th, 2012 | | 11:53 pm |

The Biggest Marketing Tool in Wedding Photography Business There are many ways to advertise your upcoming new business in photography, but there is nothing that beats Online Marketing. Here are only a few reasons why not having an online presence is a very bad move in the photography business. Most of the brides start their search by looking on internet. Most of the time people will search for your business online even if they are discussing with you offline. Your competitors are already having a website and can advertise on your business name too. A business without a website raises eyebrows. New generation brides and grooms are much more internet savvy and want similar vendors. Having highlighted the negatives, let me tell you some of the benefits of having a website in this particular business. You will have your own internet based business, as well as an official business email (not a free email like yahoo or gmail). You can put your entire portfolio online. This can include your best pictures, wedding albums of past clients. You can also create online slideshows with music effects to look way better. You can use free online marketing ideas like joining community sites, blogging and interaction in forums. You will build more contacts that will bring you additional revenue. You can utilize paid online marketing options like Google Adwords or banner advertising to drive more clients to your website. You can list your business on online yellow pages and directories. Some of these options are free and will bring you more clients and recognition. You can list yourself on online maps and local listings that are gaining prominence with GPRS enabled devices and search engines. Those are some of the key benefits fotografies gamou. However, there is something more that makes websites the biggest marketing tool to wedding photographers. The key to this marketing strategy lies in the fact that wedding photography business is still predominantly a local business. Most of your clients will come from your area and city. Most of the photographer's don't like to travel either. As such it is quite easy to find your clients. But on Internet this is even more easier fotografies gamou. Modern online advertising technology allows you to pick clients from a very specific location down to the block level. This means that you can show your advertisement to people who are living close by. Also, certain online agencies allow you to pick people based on demographics, so your advertisement can be shown only to people of right gender or age. Think of it this way, you can place your ad right before prospective brides looking for a wedding photographer. No other tool available there allows you to so precisely pin point your prospects and show them with the right advertisement. You can only imagine the response rate such a strategy will generate.
